Somos | "We Are"
Story 175
SOMOS, Serving Oregon's Migrant Community, is a vital program of Adventist Health Columbia Gorge, dedicated to supporting the health and well-being of the migrant workers who arrive for the local cherry harvest each summer. Partnering with local orchards and community health organizations, SOMOS provides essential health screenings, such as blood pressure checks, glucose testing, and vaccinations, along with food, hygiene kits, and engaging activities, transforming health check-ups into festive community events three times each summer. Since 2018, the program has screened over 1,000 migrant workers annually across three orchards, with a significant resurgence post-pandemic. Looking ahead, SOMOS aims to extend its support beyond the cherry season, ensuring continuous care for migrant families throughout the year.
