They Gave Me My Life Back | Lilly's Story
Story 190
"I left one morning and didn't even know that my entire life was gonna be changed."
I grew up in Colorado and my parents definitely had us outside a lot hiking and skiing a ton, and so I think that kind of created my natural love for the outdoors. I worked on a farm last year and you had to drive up through Creston and it was kind of just a windy road. I lost control and was going around a corner and went head on into a truck. And I ended up breaking all of the bones in my legs and my neck and my wrist. I was brought to Adventist Health Sierra Vista by ambulance on that morning.
There's not really any words to express how grateful I am because they gave me my life back. And when I, even, like I left one morning and didn't even know that my entire life was gonna be changed. And then, like having like the whole understanding of how much change was gonna be brought to my life, like having little stepping stones of like places I could pull to to be like I'm gonna be okay, was really helpful. And that I think was like definitely given to me through a lot of people here's care.
I think with a lot of my hobbies, especially 'cause they are like kind of labor intensive, it has been a little bit scary of like, oh, will I ever be able to do those things again? We were really nervous, especially rock climbing. I can't feel my left foot, and so I can't really tell if I'm putting pressure or weight on it as well. So that's been a little bit hard to figure out. But again, we figured it out, and I did it and it felt so nice and freeing again. Definitely cried and was really happy and that's been a fun thing too of like checking in with past providers who I've talked to all of my goals of healing with, and just being like, "Oh, look what I got to do today. I restarted my climbing membership," and their being just so excited for me. I mean, it makes you really feel like you have a place in the world, I guess, of like, oh, all these people care for me so much beyond their job too. And right now this person's really putting their time and effort into me and that's a really special thing to feel someone care that much about you. I have so many things left to do in my life that I'm incredibly excited for, from traveling to creating more friends throughout my life.
My path has changed a lot, but it's guided me in a different way that I think will be even better.
